Hedingham Castle once again provides a spectacular venue for this year’s event. The castle and its beautiful grounds are ideal for a family outing. Children under 12 are admitted free and there is much of interest for them to see and do apart from the cars. The amazing Norman keep, over 110 feet high and with walls 12 feet thick, will be open to all attendees. Built c.1140, there are four floors to explore, including a magnificent Banqueting Hall and Minstrel’s Gallery and phenomenal views of the event and surrounding countryside from the upper windows. There are delightful walks around the lake and through the shady woodland under the steep ramparts of the castle defences. The castle's peaceful grounds and many fine trees are home to a large variety of birds and wild life. Built, and owned to this day by the de Vere family, once one of the most important and influential medieval families who gave loyal service and military leadership to their kings and queens for over 500 years, Hedingham has had many royal visitors including King Henry VII, King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. |
